Seeing New York, Slowly

About Me

Hello, and welcome.

My name is JK, and I’m the creator of Slow Travel NYC.

New York is a city that moves at a rapid pace. Its energy is electrifying, but it can also be overwhelming. When I first arrived, I tried to see as much as I could, racing from one landmark to another. But over time, I began to ask myself: Am I experiencing the city, or just passing through it?

That’s when I discovered the philosophy of slow travel—a mindset that values depth over speed, presence over checklist. It’s not just about visiting fewer places, but about connecting more deeply with each moment, each street, each story.

Slow Travel NYC is a personal blog to record my journey. Rather than highlight only famous attractions, I explore the places where New Yorkers actually live—the neighborhood cafés where regulars know each other’s names, the corner bars with stories etched into their wooden booths, the family-run restaurants that have been serving the same recipes for generations. I seek out the wine bars tucked down quiet side streets, the coffee shops where you can linger without guilt, the bakeries that smell like home.

This blog is about experiencing the city not as a tourist, but as a thoughtful wanderer—someone who savors a meal, nurses a drink, and pays attention to the details that make a place feel alive.

I hope this blog serves as a gentle guide for anyone wishing to slow down and experience New York on a deeper, more personal level—one cup of coffee, one conversation, one unhurried evening at a time.

Thank you for walking alongside me.

Warmly,
JK
